The name Our Lady of Vailankanni was used after Mother Mary appeared with Child Jesus at Vailankanni. The town of Vailankanni is located at Nagapattinam distrcit in Tamilnadu, India.
During the 16th century Mother Mary appeared to a young boy in Vailankanni. The devotion to her has become very popular since then. Millions of devotees visit Vailankanni to ask for Mother Mary’s intercession for healing of their ailments. The largest gatherings are during the novenas held from 29th August each year. The feast is celebrated on 8th September which is also the birthday of Mother Mary. Â
